 By Scabbers

Once there had been 2 hamsters, Cocoa and Chip, living in separate barred cages in a small laboratory. Cocoa was a female syrian, and her fur was mix of brown and white. Chip was a male syrian, and his fur was all black.

The two hamsters' cages were placed side by side, and Cocoa would wait every night for Chip to come and talk with her. Every night the two would talk about what it would look like outside of the small room.

Both hamsters were kept as lab animals for experiments, sadly. But it was very fortunate that the scientists never used them in experiments. But for the animals who were used in experiments, were lucky that the scientists were not as cruel as most. They used the experiments not for human accessories, but for animals, like what kind of food is best for a mouse.

One night, Cocoa and Chip were having a long conversation about something terrible that was going to happen.

"Oh no..." said Cocoa sadly. "I can't believe they'd do that to us!"

"I heard them with my own ears!" Chip cried. "They're gonna start dangerous experiments now! What of one of us gets hurt? What about all the other lab animals they are in danger too?! What's going to happen to us?!"

"I don't know..." Cocoa replied. She sighed and fell to the floor of her cage, into the bedding.

"We have to get out of here!" said Chip, with a lot of confidence in himself. "We have to somehow climb out out cages and escape!"

Cocoa got up and asked, "But how do we do that? There's no way of getting out of these cages... Wait! The sliding entrance!"

Cocoa raced over to where there was a small barred latch that could be opened, that the scientist would use to put food in the cage. Cocoa put her paws on the latch, and tried lifting it upward. She got it open, just enough where she could slip out. She scurried over to Chip's cage, and to her surprise, Chip had already climbed out.

"We're free!" cried Chip.

"Shhh!" Cocoa whispered angrily. "Even if they can't understand what were saying, doesn't mean they can't hear us!"

"Oh, sorry," Chip whispered.

Cocoa gazed at the other mice, rats, and other hamsters who were still in their cages.

"What about the others?" Cocoa asked.

"Okay," Chip said. "You free the mice and the hamsters, and I'll free the rats."

So, Cocoa raced over to mice and hamsters, while Chip raced to the rats. They both pulled open all the latches, and the caged animals slipped out. They were finally all free.

Cocoa and Chip met back at their own cages, and looked for somewhere to escape. Chip spotted a low open window. They ran over to it, and noticed that there was part of an old, torn up curtain hanging down. They both climbed up, and noticed all the other animals just running crazily around confused.

"Hey!" shouted Cocoa. "Up here!"

"Hey you guys!" yelled Chip. "Climb up here! This is how you can escape!"

So, one after another, the mice climbed up the curtain and escaped, then the remaining hamsters, and last, the lab rats.

Later the next day, however, a scientist who fed the lab animals came into the room, and was shocked to see all the animals were gone. He thought it was some kind of bad omen, to hurt small animals. So, he told all the other workers and scientists, and they agreed to NEVER do dangerous projects on any animal ever again.
