Grooming
Hamsters are natural groomers, spending a large part of their time cleaning and grooming themselves. This is because to hamsters, scent glands and smells play an important role in behaviour, territoriality and communication during breeding cycles.
The hamster's incisors and toenails are kept trimmed by gnawing and digging. Nails should be checked and clipped regularly if necessary.
If your hamster stop cleaning itself and became inactive, this may be a sign of illness.
